Letter To Obama at Whitehouse Sent from 95 year Old Pearl Harbor Survivor

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Letter below part of mass-mailing circling the Internet:

WOW !! WOW !! AND WOW AGAIN !!
95 year old hero!
Letter To Obama at Whitehouse Sent from 95 year Old Pearl Harbor Survivor !! Fantastic!!

WW II Battleship sailor tells Obama to shape up or ship out !

This venerable and much honored WW II vet is well known in Hawaii for his seventy-plus years of service to patriotic organizations and causes all over the country. A humble man without a political bone in his body, he has never spoken out before about a government official, until now. He dictated this letter to a friend, signed it and mailed it to the president.

Dear President Obama,

My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don’t believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.

I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos’n Mate. Now I live in a “rest home” located on the western end of Pearl Harbor , allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.

One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.

So here goes.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.

I can’t figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends and enemies despicable lies like:
” We’re no longer a Christian nation”
” America is arrogant” – (Your wife even
announced to the world,” America is
mean-spirited. ” Please tell her to try
preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our
war dead buried all over the globe who
died for no other reason than to free a
whole lot of strangers from tyranny and
hopelessness.)
I’d say shame on the both of you, but I don’t think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.

After 9/11 you said,” America hasn’t lived up to her ideals.”

Which ones did you mean? Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British? Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War? I hope you didn’t mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.

I don’t think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.

Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man.

Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don’t, I’ll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue . You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.

And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don’t want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts , who was putting up a fight? You don’t mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don’t want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.

One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you’re the Commander-in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you’re not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you’re thinking of.

You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president.
You’re not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That’s not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now.
And I sure as hell don’t want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle…

Sincerely,
Harold B. Estes

When a 95 year old hero of the “the Greatest Generation” stands up and speaks out like this, I think we owe it to him to send his words to as many Americans as we can. Please pass it on.

I received the below email from an acquaintance, ‘K’. He’s a little unpolished, but understandably a little upset at his vacation plans being disrupted and, as you can see, was intended for wide distribution. Strong language warning- do not read if offended by profanity. I cut/pasted it directly, so it is a little rough looking:

Hello Comrade(s),
(Please don’t respond to this message, Thank You)

The news so far today (6am) is awash with horse sh!t of little consequence to most of us, strangely devoid of anything solid. There was not much sleep for the wicked last night. There is a nagging problem here, slowly revealing itself.

I noticed increased aircraft (helicopter & small plane) traffic yesterday out in front of this place we are at –Marco Island, Fl.,gulf front, if you have a map, look it up. It’s in North America. I think someone is looking for something out there & it’s not sharks or bikinis..

Reports from reputed ‘insider sources’ appear to paint a different picture of the gulf oil catastrophe than the sheeple news is reporting. Apparently there is a continuing engineered news ‘blackout’, errors of omission of course(!), concerning the seriousness of the unfolding cataclysm here. This has the real potential to be a non-local event. Local being if you live anyplace between Brownsville TX & Lubec Maine & beyond to the east. Ocean currents run that way, you know. I guess if you’re inland a hundred or two miles, you may not be affected. Can you believe it? People have to live somewhere. Most live along coastlines. Funny, ain’t it?

My gut & eyes tell me the people here are wide awake with shock & well aware of the clear & present danger here & at the same time, mostly helpless. The tension is beyond palpable & increasing..

In any case, it seems that FEMA, DHS, Army, National Guard, the EPA & a host of other alphabet soup groups may soon announce that evacuations must begin along Florida’s west coast as glossy ’sheen’, ‘globs’ or ‘pucks’ of oil solids, petroleum fumes and fire plumes are not compatible with a weakened respiratory systems of the old, the young and sometimes the in-betweens. There’s lots of stuff still alive underwater too I think.

Oceanographers, engineers, emergency response teams, environmentalists, NOAA people, and a massive number of American citizens living along these shores are bracing for the worst. It seems that in FL. alone, there are some 2200+ miles of shoreline to protect & only 16 miles of oil boom available as of a day or so ago and we all know that liquids flow pretty much wherever they want anyhow…… hurricanes can really ruin the best laid plans, you know? I was here about 6 years ago when 3 blew through. I caught the middle one. Yes.

Most who have been paying attention over these years can likely guess the next moves: nationalization of the oil industry perhaps, massive cover ups, ‘grillings’ of a host of people with nobody being nailed to anything, sh!tloads of new environmental legislation which won’t mean a goddamn thing (since the damage is DONE) except for, perhaps, a worldwide tax on YOUR ass to clean this f^^^ing nightmare up which will never happen because it cannot be done. We’ll be fleeced anyhow. “You ARE with ‘us’, aren’t you??”

Am I being too pessimistic on all this? Don’t pass judgment. I am no expert on this crap. This is just an acidic regurgitation of someone else’s sick musings.

Perfect Gift for Paramedics

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

I’ve  not been posting lately because I’m in paramedic school. It’s an accelerated course. It’s intense. Because I have so much material to memorize, it has been recommended that we make flashcards.  Unfortunately, we need to sleep sometime as well.  But all is not lost. Most of the information is in the EMS Field Guide, which I got a great deal on here

If they already have one of those, maybe they want one of these

Hope to have a little free time these next few weeks since I’m going on a new diet (which should free up at least 45 minutes a day)  about which I will also post.

Stay safe.

Technical issues

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Astute readers will have noticed that there haven’t been many posts lately.

Part of it is my fault- I’ve been busy doing other things.

The other part is a result of my being unable to login.  I discovered that it was an effect of upgrading WordPress.  I’m working on getting it resolved, but have been busy doing other things to pay the bills.  Don’t keep staring at this page!

new shoes

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

Okay, so here I am, looking for new shoes.

It’s not all that hard- I have problems with my feet.

The problem is, I walk.  A lot.  I wore the last pair smooth.  In six months.

And my foot is a non-standard shape.  So I’m pretty much stuck with one brand.  Not a cheap one, either.  So I went to the ASICS Homepage to try to identify the shoes I saw on sale in the shop.

Lo and behold, a dizzying combination appeared. This is information overload.  I just need a pair of shoes!

Worse yet, all of the Flash imagery crashed my laptop!  It’s not enough I’m working on funky wireless connections in cafes, no…

Living Dangerously

Friday, September 12th, 2008

So now I’m a blogger. Ho-hum.

Not so fast.

This article here is kind of scary.

Yes, there are laws designed to keep the powerful protected, even at the expense of the public which they are sworn to protect. In Malaysia today, the government has arrested a blogger who published information embarrassing to the current regime under the authority of an anti-sedition law. In this case, it was the Internal Security Act.

Malaysia has one, the US has many, peruse the Executive Orders here (and read the various flavors of the PATRIOT ACT), Russia has always had them; they exist in many countries in the so-called ‘developed world’.

So, read between the lines.

Think.

It may keep you out of jail. And alive.

They lied!

So I went to get a portable computer.  I saw this great review of the Acer Aspire One AOA150-1447, which reportedly comes with a 6-cell battery, 160GB internal hard drive and WinXP. Then I decided I wanted that model.

At something like 2.2 pounds, I could deal with the tiny keyboard and smallish screen, since it is basically a Wi-Fi device (to let me post to this blog more often!) Selling points: big HD; native Linux support.

The press release, quoted by Technorati, TechShout, AspireOneUser and several other tech blogs mentions that it is available from any Acer authorized reseller.

A bad joke.

I called my supplier and he confirmed that, not only were none available, but that he couldn’t even backorder them from either of the two largest wholesale distributors in the world.

Well, it wasn’t a complete waste of time- I did learn that Acer seems to own/control Gateway.

Which explains how some of the Gateway models that didn’t move very well are now on sale as… Acer computers.

Odd, don’t you think?

I’m still waiting for one to become available.
